Sun, Sand and Surf at Cherating Islands

Wish you were away from the hustle and bustle of the city? Located at less than 50 km from Kuantan is the gorgeous Cherating Island. Powdery white sands, sun kissed virgin beaches lined with casuarina trees, Cherating is your perfect antidote to frantic city life. Sit back, relax and take in an experience of a lifetime!

Must see:
Turtle Sanctuary and Turtle Watching- While walking on the soft sands of Cherating beach, catch a glimpse of little turtles leaving their footprints. The Cherating beach is home to the Leatherback, Green, Olive Ridley and Hawksbill species. Over here you will see the famous Turtle Sanctuary where baby hatchlings are looked after before they find their way to the sea. If you’re lucky enough you can watch these turtles hit the shores at night.

Watch fireflies- At night, the Cherating takes on an entirely new character. Take a cruise through the mangrove lined river and watch a mystery unfold with a million fireflies dancing through trees and lighting up the darkness.

Must do:
River Cruise- Take a relaxed two and half hour cruise down the Cherating River to get a glimpse of life within the rich vegetation of the area. What an ideal way to spend a lazy afternoon! The twists and turns of the river will take you through mangrove forests, home to monitor lizards, monkeys, snakes and tropical birds. If you’re lucky enough you may also spot otters or terrapins in the pristine river.

Snorkelling at Snake Island- This is a must do if you’re at Cherating Island. Make your way to the Snake Island which is off the coast of Cherating, Pulau Ular. A popular hotspot for snorkeling and picnics, frolic around colourful corals and tropical fish!

Buzzing Night market- Watch the small town of Kemaman come alive with sights, sounds and smells of the Pasar Malam (night market). You can shop for anything from cheap clothing to household goods. Hungry? Drool over a mouth watering spread of local food, delicacies, sweets and snacks. To take home a truly Malaysian experience, visit the Kemaman town, a twenty minute drive by car from Cherating.

Horseback Riding- Ready for some thrilling activity? Get close to nature; take a horseback ride along the water’s edge.
