The Langkawi International
Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA) is a biennial event which is held on
the picture-perfect island of Langkawi, a favored Malaysian tourist destination
situated in the Andaman Sea. LIMA, which
is in its 12th edition this year, is now counted as one of the premier maritime
and aerospace exhibits in the world.
LIMA initially started off in
1991 as a trade show, which provided a platform for aerospace and maritime
manufacturers to showcase and promote their latest products to Government
officials in Malaysia and other countries of the Asia Pacific region. However,
today this trade show has grown in leaps and bounds so that it now features a
strong has a tourism aspect as well. Aside from business dealings, conferences
and networking opportunities, LIMA today also hosts various thrilling events like
tourism carnivals along with electrifying airshows and a fantastic display of
warships and maritime vessels that hail from Malaysia and various other
participant countries like the USA, Korea, Australia and Indonesia.
LIMA in 2013 is scheduled to be
held over a period of four days from the 26th to the 30th
of March at the specially constructed Mahsuri International Exhibition Center,
conveniently situated near Langkawi International Airport and a cruise jetty.
Public access to the event is set for the 29th and 30th
of March, as the first three days of LIMA are exclusively reserved for trade
visitors.
In 2011, LIMA is known to have
attracted 400 companies and more than 150,000 visitors, these record numbers
are expected to be easily surpassed in 2013, as this year’s event promises to
be even more exciting than before. For
LIMA 2013, the anticipated attendance is estimated to be in excess of 160,000
visitors providing representation to 36 countries from around the world. Also
on anvil is the participation of more than seventy-five aircrafts and
forty-eight warships and maritime vessels.
Aside from the air shows and ship displays,
LIMA 2013 will also feature seminars, conferences, career day programs and
interesting display pavilions and the presentation of the ASEAN Commercial
Aviation Awards which will reward and recognize the best performing airlines
and airports in the ASEAN region.
