Beaches on the mainland of Terengganu

The state of Terengganu situated in north-eastern Peninsular Malaysia is a popular vacation destination. Famed as the home of idyllic island getaways, like Pulau Redang, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Gemai and Pulau Lang Tengah, Terengganu is also bestowed with long, relatively unspoiled coastline that spans 244 kilometers from the district of Besut in the north to the district of Kemaman in the south.
The pristine beaches that dot this long stretch of coastline offer panoramic views of the crystal clear waters of the South China Sea, as they offer ample opportunities for a ‘fun in the sun’ holiday. Read on for some more information about these stunning, Terengganu beachfront properties.

Baru Burok
Baru Burok is a picturesque beachfront located within a few kilometers of Kuala Terengganu. This beach which bears the hallmarks of most mainland Terengganu beaches like Casuarina pines and golden sands is a favored weekend getaway spot with the residents of Kuala Terengganu. The beach of Baru Burok is the chosen site of Terengganu’s annual beach festival though it also hosts various water sporting activities like swimming and an immensely popular night market frequented by locals and visitors alike.

Tanjung Jara Beach
The golden sand Tanjung Jara beach is home to a sprawling, high-end beach resort which bears the same name. Located within the Kuala Dungun district of Terengganu, Tanjung Jara which is often visited by powerful swells is a popular site for much water sport recreation like windsurfing, kayaking, boating in addition to snorkeling and scuba diving. This Casuarina lined, powdery sand beachfront also serves as the nesting site for giant leatherback turtles during the traditional nesting period of May to September. Tanjung Jara beach can be easily accessed by flying into Kuala Terengganu and then reserving a taxi to transport you to the beach located approximately 60 km from the state capital. Aside from the luxe Tanjung Jara beach resort, this gorgeous oceanfront enclave also offers various reasonably priced accommodations.

Marang Beach
Most tourists head to Marang Beach in order to gain access to the Pulau Redang but the beach at Marang itself is nothing to be sniffed at. In fact the white sand beach at Marang is known for its spectacular sunrise vistas and hence it is much favored by photographers in the know. However Marang beach is also known to be enveloped by powerful waves, so you should exercise if you intend to take part in any water sporting action available on the beach. A variety of beach side accommodations are available within  the Marang Beach vicinity.

Bukit Keluang Beach
Kuala Besut is primarily known as the main access point for Pulau Perhentian, as ferries serving the island depart from the jetty located here throughout the day.  However, located within close proximity of Kuala Besut, is yet another stunning beachfront of mainland Terengganu, the Bukit Keluang Beach. Unlike other sandy beaches of the region, the Bukit Keluang beach area consists of a rocky outcrop, surrounded by cave formations, lush rainforests and a river that flows into the sea. The views from the beachfront are thus spectacular and quite different from those offered elsewhere. Bukit Keluang beach hosts several picnic spots, frequented by holidaying families. The beach also offers various water sporting activities like swimming, snorkeling and windsurfing.

Penarik Beach
Easily accessible by road from the city of Kuala Terengganu, Pantai Penarik is a stunning beach renowned for its ‘postcard perfect setting’. Encompassing powder white sand, sparkling waters, quaint fishing villages and traditional homes, Penarik beach also offers stunning vistas of neighboring islands like Redang, Bidong, Lang Tengah and Pulau Perhentian.  Barbecuing the fresh catch brought in by local fishermen is one of the many attractions of this gorgeous beachfront.
