Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park Malaysia

The Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park, located within the city’s Lake Gardens area is a lush, verdant paradise. Here in an ambience recreated to mimic a teeming rainforest, over 6000 butterflies belonging to 120 species, dance and frolic with gay abandon. Described by none other than the esteemed Discovery Channel in a program, which was watched by over 200 million viewers, the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park was described as ‘the best of its kind in the word’.

This beautifully landscaped park extends over 80,000 sq. feet and is believed to be the largest butterfly park in the world. Abundantly littered with various flowering and fragranced butterfly-host plants like heliconia, ixoria, rich ferns, bamboo and flowering vines, the park also features a sparkling hydro-pond, home to koi fish and fresh water turtles. An elevated gazebo affords visitors breath-taking views of the park as they soak in the lush ambience

The butterfly park which is partly located in the shade and covered by a barely visible net offers viewings of various native Malaysian butterflies like the Rajah Brook (a distinctive black and electric green butterfly hailing from the forests of Sarawak), the Malayan Lacewing or Batik Butterfly (a gorgeous speckled orange butterfly) and the Common Rose (a striking long-tailed butterfly) and many more. The butterflies themselves seem accustomed to human presence as they go about their business of flitting from one flowering plant to another insouciantly.

Onsite at the park is an insect museum which showcases many live creepy-crawlies like man face bugs, stick insects, leaf insects, orchid mantis and so forth. A souvenir shop located within the park environs, gives souvenir-hunting tourists an opportunity to buy local handicrafts and mementos of their visit like framed butterflies and beetles.

‘A thing of beauty is a joy forever’ said the famed poet John Keats in his poem "Endymion." So if you want to surround yourself with much natural beauty on your trip to Kuala Lumpur, a visit to the city’s stunning butterfly park is highly recommended.

The KL Butterfly Park is open daily from 9.00am to 6.00pm (including weekends and public holidays).

Entrance fees are RM18.00 for Adults (standard) and RM8.00 for Children (standard). Discounts are offered for Malaysian citizens.
There is a charge of RM1.00 for each camera taken into the park.
